EPRs are specific to individual crop varieties. A single variety can be represented in Grain Trader in several commodities (eg by grade), and a single commodity can be associated with a number of varieties. Grain Trader therefore has a mechanism to link varieties to commodities in a many-to-many relationship. This is performed using the Varieties window as shown below:
This window can be displayed either from the View | Varieties menu:
or by clicking the ellipsis button on the Varieties panel of the Commodity window:
It is worthwhile noting that you can keep track of Varieties using this system even if you are not collecting EPRs.
If you have not already created the Variety you want to associate with this commodity, to create a new Variety click the New Variety button and enter the details on the right-hand side of the Varieties window. If EPRs are to be collected for this Variety check the Apply Royalties box and select/enter the appropriate values.
If the Supplier account for the Royalty Manager to whom the EPRs are paid does not yet have an associated Customer account at this stage you will be prompted to either link the two or create a new one, as described in EPR Supplier/Customer:
You associate a Variety with a Commodity by checking the box in the Linked cell of the Varieties list. If the Variety is not yet linked to the Commodity ensure that Show all is checked to display all active Varieties. Click Apply to confirm the association and keep this window open, or OK to confirm then close the window.
To remove a Variety from a Commodity simply return to the Varieties window and select the Commodity from the drop-down combo. Clear the checkbox in the Linked cell of the Varieties list and click Apply or OK.
After you have created your Varieties and linked them to the relevant Commodities you are ready to flag those suppliers from whom you wish to collect EPRs.
